You know the feeling of getting home after a long day of work and snuggling up with a glass of cab and Netflix? Multiply that times one million. That is exactly what your mini-moon location should feel like. After your wedding celebrations are over, you don’t need to jet to Italy for three weeks in order to relax. You just need to find a cozy place you and your partner can unwind together for a few days. Going to Italy is always a good idea, but sometimes a mini-moon is all you need.
Mini-moons require less money, planning, and time than honeymoons. And let’s be real, who doesn’t love more money in their pocket and more time spent doing things other than planning? Plus, you probably want to save some of that vacation time for later in the year.
Mini-moons can be super local, or they might require a short flight. You and your partner could head to an island for a few days, or you could simply opt to stay an extra couple nights at a luxe hotel in the city you got married in. The only thing that matters about a mini-moon is that it’s special to you and your partner. The goal is to recover from the wedding festivities, and spend some quality time together without all your friends and family around. Here are six unique mini-moon locations you might not have considered.
1. Santa Barbara, California
Santa Barbara is a national treasure. From its gorgeous beaches to the beautiful homes in Montecito to a very vibrant wine and beer scene in the Funk Zone, it’s the perfect destination for couples with all different interests. 10/10 would recommend.
2. Sea Island, Georgia
This privately owned island is the perfect getaway for a couple who wants to retreat to a resort and not worry about doing all that much else. There are just two resorts on the island, so book early.
3. Portland, Maine
Portland is the hippest burgeoning food hub in America. If you and your partner are into exploring new cities, eating great meals, and drinking delicious beer, this town is for you. As an added bonus, you’re not too far from the great hikes greater Portland has to offer.
4. Telluride, Colorado
This funky ski town is great in winter or summer. The town boasts great skiing, a gorgeous historical town, and a great film festival as well. A great destination for the couple who loves the outdoors.
5. Nantucket, Massachusetts
Even if you didn’t get married on the Grey Lady, heading to this little island for a summer or fall getaway is the cutest mini-moon idea around. The full-on old school New England vibes on this secluded island will make you and your partner feel like you’ve traveled back in time, and will certainly inspire you to unplug and unwind.
6. New Orleans, Louisiana
New Orleans is more than Mardi Gras and Bourbon Street. One of the most vibrant cities in America, New Orleans is the ideal mini-moon for the couple who wants to go to Europe, but can’t fit a trip in at the moment. Excellent food, live music, and a culture like no other city in America make this a great destination. (And if you prefer to take your beer with you on the street rather than finish it at the bar, you can do that here too.)
